Familias Unidas por la Justicia Members to Ratify Tentative Union Contract

Burlington, WA- The members of Familias Unidas por la Justicia (FUJ) an independent and indigenous Mixteco and Triqui farmworker union based in Burlington, WA are voting on whether to ratify or not the tentative agreement reached by their negotiations committee with Sakuma Bros Berry Farm last weekend.

If approved by the majority of members, this will be a historic first for Puget Sound. “This contract gives us a voice at work and recognizes and values our skills as professional hand harvesters of premium berries like Sakuma Berry Farm grows” said Ramon Torres, President Familias Unidas por la Justicia.  After the ratification vote the collective bargaining agreement will be signed the next day, Friday July 16th by the Union representatives and Sakuma management. The berry season will soon begin with full collective bargaining rights for all workers in place.
