Solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter and All Who Fight to Dismantle White Supremacy

“Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”

– Frederick Douglass

Over a week ago, George Floyd was murdered by the police.

Since then, thousands of people, following the leadership of Black organizers, have taken to the streets to demand justice for Floyd. They have been met by extreme violence from a militarized police force that does not answer to the people.

We stand in solidarity with Black communities, organizers, and the multi-racial protesters demanding an end to racialized oppression and systemic racism that is pervasive throughout our country.

A just food system is impossible without racial justice. They must go hand-in-hand. Racism and a militarized police force are not bugs in our capitalist system, but rather, they are central to upholding it. Both in our own nation and the world, racism, exploitation, and dispossession are at the core of poverty and hunger. Building a just food system means ending these injustices.

As long as the police have the power to murder people in the streets, there cannot and will not be any justice in our food system or broader society.

We know that we will need a broad, multi-racial, working-class movement to begin to dismantle the structures that hold racism in place and cause the injustices that drive hunger and poverty.

Here are some of the ways you can either take action or support those fighting to change our unjust system:
